HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation-Online With Face-to-Face Assessment

This style of delivery is ideal for those who have been deemed competent in both practical and theory components previously. This course has prior online learning and the face to face session is practical assessment, with a short practice time. It is aimed at those who are confident in their skills and knowledge.

Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that can lead to death. Quick decision making is required to recognise and assess a cardiac emergency, call for medical assistance and perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures which will increase the chance of survival for a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally.

This course includes the skills and knowledge required to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.  It applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Course Information

Quick decision making is required to recognise and assess a cardiac emergency, call for medical assistance and perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures which will increase the chance of survival for a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally.

In this CPR course, you will learn these skills, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, including using an automated external defibrillator (AED), how to rotate first aiders with minimal interruptions to compressions, and what to do if the casualty regurgitates or vomits.

The course also covers conveying accurate incident details when handing the casualty over to emergency services, how to review an incident, to recognise any psychological impacts on self and other rescuers, to seek help if required and for improvement of own personal skills and response times.

The following units will be included in your certificate:

  • HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Client workplace or facility that has suitable and practical area suitable for the course.

Course location needs to be approved and deemed safe and suitable prior to course commencement by Power Training Solutions.  This may require an “inspection” or photographs of the proposed location for the delivery of courses.

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.

Students please note all course content, including face to face learning and written tasks are conducted in the English language.  It is advisable that students have an understanding and are able to communicate in the English language.

Refresher courses – only available at trainer’s discretion

30 minutes face to face, including student practice, and up to 1 hour practical for refresher.  Refresher $70.

Students completing the face to face refresher course will have previously completed this course and will be regarded to have substantial experience in this field as part of their role in the workplace or community and hold a current certification.  Current certification includes a certificate which is no less than 30 days from expiry or verification/confirmation from the employer of existing Qualification, Certificate or Statement of Attainment and currency of skills.

Blended

Approx 30 minutes online must be completed prior to attending the course.

2.5 hours of face to face learning, including 30 minutes written theory assessment and up to 1 hour of practical assessment.

Approx 1.5-including a short practice time

Online learning must be completed prior to attending the face-to-face assessment. This course is ideal for those who have previously been deemed competent in both practical and theory and are confident in their skills and knowledge.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 12 months

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Manage the unconscious, breathing casualty including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise
  • Manage the unconscious, non-breathing adult
  • Performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (5 cycles of both compressions and ventilations) on an adult resuscitation manikin placed on the floor
  • Perform at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single rescuer CPR (5 cycles both compressions and ventilations) on an infant resuscitation manikin placed on a firm surface
  • Following the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to deliver at least one shock
  • Demonstrating a rotation of single rescuer operators with minimal interruptions to compressions
  • Responding appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
  • Handing over to emergency services
  • Providing an accurate verbal report of the incident
  • Review the incident
  • Communicate details of the incident.
  • All assessments are in line with the ARC Guidelines

Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.
